Mr. Myron R. Workman, 91, of Welton, Iowa, died Saturday evening, October 14, 2017, at Westwing Place, DeWitt.
Myron Reed Workman was born September 29, 1926, at Mount Vernon, Iowa, to the late Reed Carlos and Pearl Rebecca (Lehr) Workman. Following graduation from Stanwood High School in 1943, he entered the United States Army. Myron served in the HQ Battery 9th AAA GP during World War II and was honorably discharged receiving the rank of Tec 4. Myron was united in marriage to Helen Marie Friday on February 15, 1948, at the Stanwood United Methodist Church. He started out farming the Workman homestead and later owned and operated Workman Repair Shop. In 1969, Myron went to work for Alcoa retiring in 1989. His wife preceded him in death on January 28, 2016.
He was a member of the DeWitt and Davenport Moose Lodge, a member of the Country Western Music Association and was a self taught musician for over 80 years. Myron was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star for over 50 years, proudly serving along with his wife as Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron. He was also a 32nd degree Mason and Kaaba Shrine Member. Myron was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend and was deeply admired for his sense of humor, touching many lives with his musical entertainment.
Surviving are his beloved daughters, Dianna (Richard) Hitchcock of Leesburg, Florida, Donna (Ronnie) Steward and Dawn (Larry) Hand of DeWitt; grandchildren, Randy (Rachael) Hitchcock, Rhonda VanZuiden and Melissa (Brad) Steines, Nikki (Kevin) Roling, Michael (Aundrea) Kennedy, Scott (Kristen) Kennedy, Tom Kennedy, Mark Steward and Michael (Debbie) Steward, Levi Sickels, Logan (Stephanie) Sickels and Cory (Becky) Sickels, Jessica (Justin) Robertson and Chad (Alex) Hand; 29 great-grandchildren; a sister, Wilma Havel; a brother-in-law, Robert Friday; nieces, nephews and cousins.
Also preceding Myron in death were a daughter, Debi Sickels; a brother, LaVern (Margaret) Workman; a sister-in-law, Hazel Friday and a brother-in-law, Leo Havel.
The family will receive relatives and friends at the United Methodist Church, DeWitt from 9:00 until 10:45 a.m Wednesday, October 18, 2017. A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the church. Burial and military rites will be at Elmwood Cemetery, DeWitt.
Pallbearers will be Randy Hitchcock, Michael Kennedy, Scott Kennedy, Tom Kennedy, Levi Sickels, Mark Steward, Cory Sickels, and Chad Hand. Honorary pallbearers will be Rhonda Vanzuiden, Nikki Roling, Jessica Robertson, Melissa & Brad Steines, and Logan Sickels.
