In Response To: Town of Charleston (Ellen Bishop)

According to the History of Lee County, Iowa, Western Historical Company, Chicago, 1879, page 678:
Charleston, in Charleston Township, was laid out by Joseph Hupford, March 5, 1849. It was for many years the point at which county conventions were frquently held, and at one time had aspirations for the county seat, but failed, and is now a quiet country village that has probably seen its best days.

Charleston is currently a small group of houses at a crossroads. It is located on Highway 218 south of Donnellson, Lee County, Iowa and north of the 218/61 junction north of Keokuk.

Neither of your surnames are listed in the biographical section of this 1879 book.
