At the family residence, No. 903 North Thirteenth street yesterday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock occurred the death of one of Keokuk's long time residents and respected citizens, John Victor Sand.

His illness came after an illness..
His death came after an illness of some montns' (*months) duration and the life of an honest and beloved citizen is at an end after a useful life. During the month of June of the present year the deceased was taken to his bed with pneumonia and after this illness had passed off he had not been as strong as before his illness in the early summer and passed away yesterday afternoon.

He was an expert stone mason by trade and made many friends during his quarter of a century residence in this city. He was a man who loved his home and family better than anything else and his employers speak in words of the highest praise of him, speaking of him as always trustworthy and capable. He had been working up to the time of his illness with G. F. Sandberg, the local stone mason and contractor, and has made a success of his calling during his life.

He was born in Sanslatt, Sweden on August 20, 1857, and came to this country in 1882, coming directly to Keokuk where he has made his residence ever since.

The deceased was a member of no church but was an attendant of the Swedish church of this city during his life. He was a member of the Stone Mason's union and a member of the A. B. A.

He is survived by his wife and two children of this city and a mother who is past ninety years of age, and a sister reside in the old country.

Announcement of the funeral will made later.
