John McManus

MCMANUS

When my great-grandfather Patrick McManus b. 1836 in Roscommon, Ireland, died in 1911 at Boone, Iowa, his obit said that his brother John still farmed at Anamosa. I think that if I could find records on John I might find when Patrick came from Ireland to the US. I know Patrick enlisted in the 26th Iowa Vol Inf in September 1862 at Lyons, where his maternal aunt and uncle, Elizabeth Lynch and James McGrath, owned a farm. Patrick was mustered out in June 1865 and 18 months later, having obtained a dispensation from the church, he married Mary McGrath (his cousin?) and they settled in Boone.
