Funeral rites for James E. Meeks, 58, of the Forest Hill community, were held Saturday afternoon, May 25, at Forest Chapel with Rev. A. B. Chamberlain, Center Point, officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Hulse, Morley. Mrs. Pard Miller, Robert Bainbridge and Lynn Miller sang three hymns at the service. Burial was made in the Forest Hill cemetery.

Mr. Meeks died May 22 after being bedfast for the past five years. He submitted to a major operation April 23, 1941.

Casket bearers were: L. E. Hunter, Leo Jackson, Gerald Joslin, Don Ruhl, Wayne Joslin and Clyde Johnson.

Mr. Meeks was born October 13, 1887, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Meeks, in the Forest Hill community where he grew to manhood.

He was married Nov. 12, 1908 to Bertha E. McLeary. Couple lived in Olin and Morley until the death of Mrs. Meeks, May 25, 1929, when the father and son moved to the former's boyhood home.

Mr. Meeks married Hazel Perego, April 14, 1931. Soon thereafter he was employed by an oil company in Linn county where he worked 10 years until his operation in 1941.

Surviving besides his wife, are one son, Harold, two sisters, Mrs. Archie Hay and Mrs. H. E. Stover. One son by his first marriage died in infancy.
