Edgar W Etherington, 87, died Friday, Jan. 12, 2007, in the Anamosa Care Center after a short illness. Memorial services: 1 p.m. Tuesday, Kramer Funeral Home, Monticello. Burial: Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Edgar was born March 1, 1919, in Lake Crystal, Minn., the son of Roy and Elma (Rollings) Etherington. He married Faye Hakes on Nov. 23, 1938, in Garner. Together they farmed near Plymouth, Clear Lake and Woden, then in Talmoon, Minn., for 25 years. They moved to the Monticello area in 1995.

When the chores were done, Edgar loved to fish. He also enjoyed swapping jokes and playing cards with family and friends.

Survivors include two daughters, Shirley (Tom) Gutzeit of Monticello and Nancy (David) Cink of Mantica, Calif.; two sons, Rick (Mary) of Garner and Mike (Linda) of Titonka; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Bob (LaVon) of Brooklyn Center, Minn., Ralph (Roberta) of New Hope, Minn., and Jerry (Judy) of Mapleton, Minn.; a sister, Vivian Thomas of Lake Crystal, Minn.; and a brother-in-law, James Roberts of Lake Crystal, Minn.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Faye, in 2000; a son in infancy; a sister, Berneatha Roberts; and a sister in infancy, Bonnie.
