Evelyn P. Greenawald, 95, of Anamosa, formerly of Monticello, died Saturday, Oct. 28, 2006, in St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids, after a brief illness. Memorial services: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, United Church of Monticello, by the Rev. Ed Moreano. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Kramer Funeral Home, Monticello.

Evelyn was born April 11, 1911, the daughter of Jacob P. and Thea (Selness) Quandahl. She married Lawrence D. Greenawald on Sept. 28, 1932, in Corydon. He preceded her in death on June 12, 1983.

She attended rural schools in Allamakee County and graduated from Spring Grove, Minn., high school, then attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn.

Evelyn graduated Magna Cum Laude from the State University of Iowa in 1932. She was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi honorary science fraternity. She earned her masters degree in science education from the U of I in 1959. She taught at Newton, Dayton, Ohio, Morley and Monticello.

She is survived by three daughters, Janet (John) Andreesen of Anamosa, Carol (James) Hosch of Maquoketa and Sheri K. Greenawald of San Francisco, Calif.; two sons, Tom (Mary Jane) Greenawald of West Des Moines and Dave Greenawald of Apple Valley, Minn.; 15 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Bergeson of Waukon; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dale; a granddaughter, Jayne Ann Andreesen; a great-granddaughter, Jayne Lee Andreesen; a sister, Helen Hanson; and a brother, Truman Quandahl.

Memorials are preferred to the United Church of Monticello, the Greenawald Rotary Music Scholarship or the American Diabetes Association.
