In Memoriam.

It is rare that the visitation of death brings such bereavement as overshadows one of the esteemed families of this city, and was most poignant at the final ceremonies on yesterday. The late Amelia Greer was then laid to rest, and added to the grief of husband, sons, daughter and other relatives was the sincere sympathy of a circle of friends who have so long known and admired her. Mrs. Greer had reached and was passing into her sixtieth year. Her husband, Mr. P. Greer, one of the old merchants of Iowa City, found in her a most amiable and faithful helpmeet, an elevated and painstaking mother. In their long and happy married career, ten children were born to them, and of those who survive all are useful and promising members of society. The loss to them of their beloved mother comes with great severity, and leaves a wide place that never can be filled. Death is at anytime an unwelcome visitor, but when the dear mother is lost and the chair that once held her is vacant, there comes a blow that sweeps across the heart and leaves desolation behind.

Mrs. Greer was ill but several days and her death was to a certain degree a sudden one. At the funeral obsequies yesterday, Rev. Dr. Folsom spoke most feelingly of the life and character of the deceased, and drew for the living many valuable and timely lessons over the bier of their loved one.
