Michael “Mike” John Hamer, 65, died Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at UIHC.

The family will greet friends Sunday, June 12, 2022, from 1 PM to 3 PM at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City. Private family committal will be the Downey Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the Mike Hamer Memorial Fund has been established.
Mike deserved to be remembered and he will be. He will be remembered by all those he knew and loved.

Mike was born September 1, 1956 in Iowa City, the son of Leo and Helen (Cooper) Hamer. He was a graduate of West High School. On June 3, 1983 Mike married June Tsuris in Iowa City.

Mike owned and operated Clear Co. Auto Body in Coralville for many years and later owned Hamer Lawn Care where their motto was “You grow it, I mow it”.

Mike loved the outdoors and enjoyed time gardening, camping, riding his Harley motorcycle and attending NASCAR events. He was a friendly neighbor who enjoyed smoking ribs on his electric smoker and then shared them with others. Most important to Mike was his family and time spent attending his grandchildren’s events. His children meant everything to him. He called his children often to tell them what he did that day and to hear their voices. Always closing the conversation with “Dad loves you” and he truly did.

Mike is survived by his wife, June; three children, Paul Hamer of Monument, CO, Corie Williams (Tony) of Iowa City, and Michelle Sexton (Michael) of West Branch; six grandchildren, Caitlyn, Ethan, Brenna, Wyatt, Ginger, and Jasper.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, David, and Lawrence.
