Pioneer Falls Asleep at 83

Jonathan Marner, one of Johnson county's best known pioneers, passed away Saturday morning, at 4:30 o'clock, at the home of his daughters, 122 East Davenport Street, Iowa City.
He was a native of Cambria county, Pennsylvania, where he was born Oct. 31, 1825, and therefore would have been 84 years of age two months hence, had he lived.
He came to Johnson county 43 years ago, and settled in Sharon township, where he lived continuously; until three years ago, and since then in Iowa City.
The funeral took place Monday morning at 10 o'clock, from the Evangelical church, in Sharon township, and the interment will be in the Sharon cemetery.
Surviving are four sons and three daughters - Dr. G.P. Marner, Marion, Kas.; Dr. W.A. Marner, Miles, IA; I.G. Marner, former county clerk of Johnson county, now of Grand Junction, Col.; and Sarah, Malinda, and Susie Marner, of Iowa City.
Mr. Marner had been bedridden for the past nine months, having failed visibly in health and strength since an operation involving the loss of an eye.
He was known throughout the country for more than 40 years, as a man of industry, thrift, and upright character, and a large circle of friends will mourn him long and deeply.
