Dies at 80
Rites Held Here Today
Funeral services were to be held at the Murdoch Funeral home here this afternoon for Mrs. Charles P. Ramsey, 80, who died at Skiff Memorial hospital Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o’clock.
Mrs. Ramsey suffered a broken hip when she fell at her home, 411 North Third avenue East, late Friday night and failed to rally from her injuries. She died at Skiff Memorial hospital.
Native of County
A resident of Newton for more than 52 years, Mrs. Ramsey is survived by her husband and two daughters, Kathyrene W. Ramsey, a Newton High school teacher, and Florence E. Ramsey, manager of the Newton Credit Guide. She is also survived by two brothers, J. E. Stewart of Lynnville and F. W. Stewart of Grinnell.
Mrs. Ramsey, the former Lucy Almira Stewart, was born in the Bethel neighborhood in Lynn Grove township Dec. 20, 1861, the daughter of James H. and Chloe Stewart. She left the county but once – to visit at Gary, Ind. – during her lifetime.
She married Charles P. Ramsey of Newton in the Bethel community Aug. 7, 1889, and the couple made their home in Newton, never moving from the neighborhood of the present Ramsey home.
Church Membership
Mrs. Ramsey was a member of the Newton First Methodist church for more than 50 years and was prominent in affairs of the Good Samaritan class and the Vincent Division of the Ladies Aid society of the church. She was a member of the Pythian Sisters for 35 years and a member of the Woman’s Relief Corps and The Daily News Three-Quarter Century club.
She was preceded in death by two sons, who died in infancy and a brother, J. K. Stewart of Newton.
Mr. and Mrs. Ramsey celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary at their home her in 1939.
