In Response To: trying to locate McCray family (Margaret)

The History of Henry County, Iowa, 1986, has a biography of the McCray Family centering on Francis McCray. It states that he is the son of John and Sarah Dill McCray and he came to Iowa in 1844 from Warren County, Ohio. His father was native of Virginia and his mother from Pennsylvania. Francis was born in 1815, was well educated and taught school. In 1840 he went to Mississippi and taught and returned to Ohio in 1843 where he taught for a year. In 1844 he came to Iowa with his widowed mother (Sarah). He bought 240 acres near Merrimac Mills which he sold in 1850 and bought a 150 acres in Trenton township where he spent the rest of his life. The rest of the biography focuses on his children. The biography was written by Elsie Schuerman who states that she is the only surviving descendant in Henry County. At the time of publication she was residing in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.
