Franklin D. Hawkins, 57 of rural New London died unexpectedly Monday, November 29, 2004, at the Henry County Health Center.

Visitation for Frank will be held on Thursday, December 2, beginning after 12 noon, at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, where the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 that evening. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 3, at 10:30 a.m., at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Bill Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in the Oakland Mills Cemetery. A memorial has been established to H2O (Help to Others.)

Frank was born on January 18, 1947, in Keokuk, Iowa, to Herbert and Linda Wood Hawkins. He was a 1965 graduate of Keokuk Senior High School. Following high school, Frank served in the United States Navy for four years during the Vietnam War, where he was stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. On September 26, 1997, he married Bonnie Jo Hahn. She survives.

A lifelong resident of southeast Iowa, Frank worked on the family farm for several years after being discharged from the military. For the past 15 years, he has worked at Heatilator in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa. Frank enjoyed traveling and had a great love for animals.

Along with his wife, Frank is survived by his father, Herbert Hawkins of Keokuk, Iowa; one son, Gary Hawkins of Nashville, Illinois; one daughter, Penny and her husband, Chris Forster, of Fruita, Colorado; and two step-sons, John Zachmeyer and his wife, Lori, of Burlington, Iowa, and Tom Zachmeyer of Muscatine, Iowa. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Frank was preceded in death by his mother and one brother, Larry Hawkins.
