MABEL M. GORHAM
Mabel M. Gorham, 91, 400 E. Polk St., Washington, died Sunday July 16, 2000 at the M. L. McCreedy Home in Washington. She had been in failing health for some time. Born to David Hess and Clara Skipton Hess on July 28, 1908, she married Eugene Gorham on November 13, 1930 in Albia. He preceded her in death. She was a graduate of Winfield High School and lived most of her adult life in Washington.

Mrs. Gorham was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, TTT, enjoyed playing cards, reading, quilting and puzzles. In her earlier years, Mabel worked as a telephone operator and collector for the Winfield Telephone Company.

Mabel is survived by four sons: Jim and Don of Washington; Gary Gorham, Colorado Springs, Colorado; and Dick Gorham, Wichita, Kansas; seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Nelle Lindell and Ollie Allen, both of Winfield.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 18, 2000 at 2:30 P.M. at the Jones Eden Funeral home in Washington, with Rev. Ron McMenamin officiating. Burial followed at the Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Gene in 1989; one sister, one brother, and three half-brothers.

Memorials have been established to Systems Unlimited, WCDC or M. L.. McCreedy Home. Arrangements for the services were by Jones & Eden funeral home, Washington.
