Melva M. Schutte, 89 of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, formerly of Marceline, Missouri, died Monday, November 22, 2004, at the Park Place Long Term Care Center in Mt. Pleasant.

Graveside services will be held Friday at 1:00 p.m. at the Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Marceline, Missouri. A private family service will be held at a later date. Friends may sign the register book and leave memorials at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel during normal business hours. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Park Place Long Term Care Unit.

Melva Margaret Schutte was born November 1, 1915 in Marceline, Missouri, the daughter of Wilbur Jacob and Jennie S. Hemmings Randolph. She was a graduate of Marceline High School and attended Central College in Fayette, Missouri for three years.

On February 7, 1942, she was united in marriage to Richard H. Schutte in Marceline. He preceded her in death on May 15, 2002. Melva spent most of her life in Marceline, until moving to Mt. Pleasant, Iowa in 1996.

Mrs. Schutte was a homemaker and taught piano lessons. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Marceline, where she was the church organist for many years. Melva was also a member of PEO, the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Home Culture Club.

She is survived by two daughters, Sondra and her husband Chuck Mosley of Lawrence, Kansas, and Heidi and her husband Mike Riepe of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa; one son Richard Schulte of Los Angeles, California. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, Jennifer and her husband Brian Neher, Kenneth Mosley and his wife Donna, Sam Riepe, Ben Riepe, Kate Riepe, Julie Schulte Wayser and Derek Schulte Wayser, and by three great-grandchildren, Jacqueline Mosley, Christopher Mosley and Cora Neher.

Melva was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
