Edith Stacy, 95 of Wayland, formally of Brighton, died Thursday, December 15, 2005 at the Parkview Home in Wayland following declining health.
A memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, January 7, 2005 at the Wayland Mennonite Church with Gerry Klopfenstein and Pam Unruh officiating. Private family burial will be prior to the service at Hillcrest Cemetery in Brighton. According to Edith’s wishes her body has been cremated and there will be no formal visitation. Beatty Funeral Home in Wayland is assisting with arrangements. In lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials be designated to the Parkview Home in Wayland or Hospice of Washington County.
Mrs. Stacy was born July 8, 1910 in East Pleasant Plain, Iowa the daughter of Burdell and Venolia (Heald) Montgomery. On December 24, 1933 she was united in marriage to Raymond T. Stacy at her family home in East Pleasant Plain.
Edith graduated from East Pleasant Plain High School in 1929 and graduated from Browns Business College in Davenport. She was employed in Davenport as a legal secretary until her marriage and return to the Brighton area.
She was very active in the Brighton Presbyterian Church where she taught Sunday school for many years and served on numerous committees. After her move to the Wayland area Edith united with the Wayland Mennonite Church. One of her favorite activities was antiquing and buying antiques for the Green Gable Antique Shop she ran from her home in the 60s.
Edith and her husband farmed in the Brighton area until they moved into town in 1971. Following her husbands death she moved to the Waymar Apartments in Wayland and more recently into the Parkview Home in Wayland.

Survivors include daughter Jean Shafranek of Summersville, MO; sons Lowell Stacy and wife Pat of Wayland and Lyle Stacy and wife Ruth Ann of Brighton; thirteen grandchildren, thirty-one great grandchildren and eleven great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Raymond, infant brother William, son-in-law Richard Shafranek and one great-great grandchild.
