Mrs. Marietta Dille, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Berry Wilcoxen, was born in Indiana May 2, 1834. The family moved to Iowa many years ago and located at Clay Grove in Lee County.

In 1855 she was united in marriage to Cyrus Dille. After nearly forty years of wedded life, her husband was taken from her by death August 18, 1893, leaving her to walk the lonely path of widowhood for nearly thirty years when she, too, was called into the Great Beyond, Monday evening, April 3, 1922, at the age of 87 years, 11 months, and one day.

She was the mother of eight children, four boys and four girls—all of whom are living except two daughters, Mollie and Mrs. Emma Arnold, both of whom preceded the mother in death. The remaining children are John Dille of Conway, Missouri, Sam of Rupert, Idaho, Ed of Birmingham and George of Milton, Iowa. Mrs. Sally Jameson of White Cloud, Kansas and Lyde DeWitt of Elliott, Iowa. There are about 30 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

For many years, Mrs. Dille live in Salem and the surrounding community and was well know by the people here. She was a member of the Congregational Church of Salem for more than 25 years, having united with it on confession of faith in 1896. Her life was an exemplary life with sympathy, kind words, and good deeds for all. To know her unselfish spirit and generous heart was to admire and love her, and in the memory of all who came to know her well, will long linger pleasant and appreciative thoughts of her kindly and helpful personality. She has now gone from us and from the experiences of earth, yet she liveth.

The funeral service was held in the Congregational church at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon, April 5th, conducted by the pastor, Rev. C. Vincet. Burial in the east cemetery.
