OBITUARY: Harold J. Kauffman - Wayland Paper
Mr. Harold J. Kauffman, age 91, of Wayland, Iowa died unexpectedly at his home Sunday, October 7, 2001. Funeral services were held Wednesday October 10 at 2:00 PM from the Wayland Mennonite Church, the Rev. Steve Good officiating. Committal services were held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday at the North Hill Cemetery. There was no visitation at the Beatty Funeral Home in Wayland. The family received friends for fellowship in the basement of the church after the services. Memorials in his memory may be given to the North Hill Cemetery or Parkview Home.

Harold was born Dec. 15, 1910 in Henry County, Iowa, the son of William and Susan (Nofzinger) Kauffman. On April 25, 1935, he was united in marriage to Louise Longwell in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

He was a member of the Wayland Mennonite Church, a 50 year member of the Wayland Masonic Lodge #120, drove an oil truck for Standard Oil Co., raised turkeys, cattle, had a mink ranch, managed a grain elevator and implement store. He was a graduate of the Wayland High School in the class of 1931.

Surviving are his wife of Wayland, four daughters, Jean Roth of Wayland, Joyce Wagler and husband, Edwin of Wayland, Janice Widmer and husband, Chris, of Leawood Kansas and Judy Roberts of Iowa City, Iowa. Two sons, Joe Kauffman and wife, Laurie of Wayland and John Kauffman of Overland Park Kansas. Two sisters, Mildred Meyer and Edith Hileman both of Wayland, 16 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Ralph and Max; two sisters, Leola Alliman and Marie Berkshire; grandson Phillip Wagler and son-in-law Ron Roth.
