Mt. Pleasant News - July, 1984

Robert L. Sodergren, 56, 105 NW 44th Street, Kansas City, Mo. Died Wednesday July 4, 1984 at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He was born in Mt. Pleasant on August 29, 1927, the son of Clair and Eva Nines Sodergren. He was a graduate of Wayland High School and the University of Iowa, Iowa City, in 1950 where he was a member of the Alumni Association. A Navy veteran of World War II, Mr. Sodergren was a member of the North Cross United Methodist Church, Kansas City.

At the time of his death, he was vice president of field operations with Farmland Industries, Inc. in Kansas City. Earlier he was division general manager for the company in Des Moines from 1968 – 1981. He had been with Farmland for 24 years.

Surviving are his wife, Esther M.; three sons, Scott L., Breckenridge, Colorado; Thomas L., Jefferson City, Missouri; and Charles C., Iowa City; two stepsons, Donald M. Richardson and Dennis G. Schoonover, both of Des Moines; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Kimberly L. Carpenter, Montrose, Colorado and Denise M. Schoonover, Des Moines; his mother, Mrs. Eva Sodergren, Wayland; a brother, Richard Sodergren, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, and one granddaughter.

Services were held at 3 P.M. Friday July 6 at North Cross United Methodist Church. The body has been donated to the University of Kansas Medical Center for cancer research. The family requests all memorials to be sent to Ellen Nielsen Co-op Scholarship Fund, Farmland Industries.
