Edith Nebel, 82, of Noble, died Monday January 5, 2004 at the Parkview Home in Wayland. Funeral services were held at 10:30 A.M. at the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church with Rev. Robert Hartzler officiating. Burial was in the Sugar Creek Cemetery. Visitation began at noon Wednesday at the Sugar Creek Mennonite Church with family receiving friends from 6:39 till 8:00 in the evening. Beatty Funeral Home of Wayland assisted with the arrangements. A memorial fund in the name of Edith Nebel has been established to the Parkview Home in Wayland and the Sugar Creek Swing.

Edith was born February 20, 1921 in Noble, Iowa, the daughter of Joseph and Myrtle (Shumaker) Rich. She graduated from Wayland High School and on March 12, 1944 was united in marriage to Clayton Nebel at the Parsonage with Simon Gingerich officiating.

She was a faithful member of Sugar Creek Mennonite Church and WMSC. She worked for a short time as a store clerk at the Frey General Store in Noble. She later helped Clayton on the farm and raised the family.

Survivors include her husband Clayton of Noble, son Ledru Nebel of Nobel, four daughters, Dorothy Truman and husband Duane of Davenport, Iowa, Betty Hocker and husband Frank of Davenport, Iowa, Joan Eubanks and husband Jim of Noble, and Nadine Giudicessi and husband Gary of Las Vegas, NV.; sister Frances Howe of Hayward, CA., six grandchildren, Gregory Truman, Wendi Truman, Kevin Truman, Jeffrey Eubanks, Jason Eubanks, Janelle Eubanks, two great-grandchildren, Emma and Nolan Eubanks.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Wayne Rich.
