William Loomis was born March 2nd at Canlon in Bradford County, Pennsylvania. He came with his parents to Iowa when a small boy and settled in Henry County near the home where Mr. Loomis has always resided. He enlisted in Co. D 4th Iowa Cavalry and served through the Civil War and was honorably discharged. He was married to Miss Phoebe Cooper in October 1866. Mrs. Loomis died in 1883. To them were born ten children, seven who are living. Four of these children reside in Wyoming. Mrs. Isabelle Moore and Miss Mary Loomis of Casper, Wyoming, and Mrs. Della Bunker and William Loomis, Jr., of Hanna, Wyoming. Mrs. Ida Logan of Mt. Pleasant and Mrs. Rose Goody of New London and Charles of Salem and eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild, one brother Al of Enid, Oklahoma, who was too feeble to come. Mrs. Moore of Wyoming was the only child from the west who could be at the funeral, which was conducted by Rev. Weston at Pleasant Hill. A large number of friends were present to pay their last respects to their old comrade, friend, and neighbor. Many beautiful flowers covered the casket. Mr. Loomis was a respected citizen and had accumulated a large amount of property. He will be missed in the home and community.
