Chris H. Roth Taken Following Short Illness

Chris H. Roth, farmer living south of Wayland, passed away Sunday morning about 1:30 A.M. following a stroke which he suffered on Friday. Mr. Roth was born in Alsace, France, September 27, 1861. At the age of three he came with his parents to the state of Ohio. He came to the Wayland community at the age of 21 and has been engaged in farming, and still was doing light farming and chores, at the time of his death.

On February 22, 1887, he was married to Ella Roth who preceded him in death in 1916. On February 6, 1920, he was married to Mrs. Anna Widmer who died in October of 1936.

Survivors include two sons, Jesse and Seth, of Wayland, and two daughters, Mrs. Lena Nofzigger and Mrs. Mary Krabill. A brother Peter G. Roth of Noble and a sister, Mrs. Emma Anstutz of Smithville, Ohio also survive. There are 19 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Sugar Creek Church, where he was a member, with the Reverends Willard Leichty, Vernon Gerig, and Vernon Roth in charge. The casket bearers were Gilbert, Everett, Marvin and Arnold Roth, and Maurice and Murray Krabill. Interment was made at the Sugar Creek cemetery. The Stacy Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Those coming from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Murray Krabill, Rev. Russell Krabill, Arnold Roth and Mrs. Melvin Gingerich of Goshen, Indiana, Mrs. Lerch, Mrs. Emma Amstutz, Mrs. Katie Smucker, and Mrs. Noah Schrock of Wayne County, Ohio.
