Martha C. Rogers was born May 15, 1841 in Monroe, Tennessee and was married to William P. Shelton June 9, 1864. To this union were born six children. The husband and three children preceded her in death. One brother and sister of the deceased remain. Sister Shelton was converted in early life and united with the U. V. Church, which relation she sustained until she moved to Wayland where she changed her church relation and united with the M.E. Church in Wayland and continued a member of the same until her death. Her funeral was held in the M. E. Church in Wayland, Revs. Collier, Musselman, and Ballard officiating. The remains were laid to rest in the cemetery adjoining the church June 19, 1908.
