Wayland News – 1-23-1907

“Passing out of the shadow
Into eternal day.
Why do you call this dying?
This sweet passing away.”
This might have been said truthfully, when last Thursday morning the news came that Mrs. Keoble had died at her home south of town. Catherine Koeble, nee Gerig, was born in Alsace, France, November 15, 1872. When she was 14 years old, she was baptised on the confession of faith and admitted into the Amish Mennonite church of which she had been a faithful member until her death, a period of sixty-five years. In 1858, she entered matrimony with Jacob Koebel, who with their 4 sons survive and mourn the loss of the mother. In 1874 she came to America with her family and for many years has lived in this state. She died January 17, 1907, being aged 79 years 2 mos. And 2 days. Besides her husband and her four sons, she leaves 7 grandchildren and two brothers, one of whom is Rev. Sebastian Gerig, of this town. She was buried on Sunday morning at the Amish church, where funeral services were conducted by Revs. Graber, Mussleman, and Wagler. Mrs. Koebel was a quiet Christian woman concerned for the best of her family and her influence and character have been left to them as a very precious memory.
