"John Stalder was born in Escholzmatt, Kt. Luzern, Switzerland, on January 1, 1844 and passed away at the home of his son, Joseph west of Coppock, Wednesday, Sept. 7, 1927 at the advanced age of 83 years, 8 months, and 7 days.

He came to America in 1892 and has made his home in this community ever since.

He was united in marriage to Magdalena Schmaker, May 9, 1899. To this union six children were born all of whom survive. They are Joseph of near Coppock, Emil, Otto, Fred, and Mrs. Emil Portman all of Wayland, and Mrs. Leah Kauffman of near Washington. He also leaves eighteen grand children to mourn his departure. His wife preceded him in death some time ago.

Funeral services were held from St. Joseph's church at Pleasant Plain, Friday morning and were in charge of Rev. Courtney who was assisted by Rev. McGuire of Washington. Interment was made in the Pleasant Plain cemetery."
