C. M. Kauffman, 57 years old and a life-long resident of the Wayland community died at his home in south Wayland, Monday evening at 6:30o'clock. Mr. Kauffman had been sick for a number of years and during that time suffered pain almost constantly. He had been very ill for over a week preceding his death.

Funeral services were held at the home at 2:00 o'clock Wednesday afternoon and were conducted by Rev. E. J. Shook. Interment was made at North Hill Cemetery.

Christian M. Kauffman, son of Christian and Elizabeth Kauffman was born near Wayland, Iowa, September 11, 1883 and passed away in his home in Wayland on May 26 at 6:45 P.M. at the age of 57 years and 15 days. He got his schooling in the Douglas school and the other school of hard knocks and experience.

He was united in marriage with Miss May Essley in Coppock, Iowa, October 9, 1907. Two children were adopted, a son, LeRoy, who passed away June,1928, and a daughter, Dorothy May, who survives him. Years ago Mr.Kauffman united with the Church of Christ in Coppock where his membership remained until the end of his life.

Christian was in intense sufferer for a long time and bore his affliction with great patience and fortitude. He was a good husband, a kind father, always faithfully looking after the comfort and well being of his loved ones. He leave his wife who so faithfully cared and ministered to his needs through all his sickness, his foster-daughter, Dorothy May, four sisters, Mrs. Katie Jackson (Johnson it should be – Ann’s note), Mrs. Mattie Bates,Mrs. Emma Allen, one sister, Mrs. Anna Goldsmith, deceased, four brothers, John, Will, Edd, and Homer. These with other relatives and a large company of friends will miss his companionship and friendship.

NOTE: The above was written verbatim, with a number of mistakes, the only one which I noted in the body being the last name of his sister, Katie.
