Henry Mast Former Wayland Resident Dies

Henry Mast, 72, died at his home in Crawfordsville, Sunday morning at 6:30 after a brief illness. Stricken early Friday morning with a severe heart attack which was the first he ever had as far as the family knew. He is survived by his wife and two sons, Gladden of Crawfordsville and Paul of near Noble, Three sisters, Mrs. P. L. Nicholaus, Mrs. P.R. Schantz of near Crawfordsville and Lydia Mast of Wayland. A son Louis preceded him in death several years ago and one brother Joseph Mast died Jan 12, 1939.Henry Mast son of David and Magdelene Mast was born 3/25/1886 in Crawford township Washington County. On May 10, 1889 he was married to Mary Rittle and they observed their gold wedding anniversary last year. Mr. Mast spent much of his life as a farmer living in Wayland and Crawfordsville communities. He moved to Crawfordsville about three years ago. He was a man with many friends being prominent in church and community affairs.Funeral services were held a 2 Tues. afternoon at the Eicher Church Rev. D. E. Welty conducting the service with burial in the Eicher cemetery.

Henry Mast, son of David and Magdalene Wenger Mast was born 3/28/1866 in Washington Co. Iowa, east of Noble, He lived in this and neighboring communities until his departure from this life 2/12/1939. On May 10, 1889 he was united in marriage to Mary Rittler in a ceremony solemnized by the Rev. Benjamin Eicher. To this union were born 3 sons, Gladden, Louis David and P:aul R. Upon his confession of faith in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, he was baptized by the Rev. H. G. Allebach 2/9/1897 and was taken into fellowship of the Eicher Emmanuel Mennonite Church. In the later years of his life his membership was transferred to the Wayland Mennonite Church.

On Friday morning last week he became ill and Sunday morning about 6 he was called to his eternal abode at the age os 72 years, 10 months, and 14 days.

The following members of the family survive to mourn his passing; his wife Mary, two sons, Gladden and Paul, four grandchildren Mrs. Frances Hanna and Mrs. Norene Erwin, Pauline and Joe Henry Mast; three sisters Mrs. PL Nickolaus, Mrs. PR Schantz and Miss Lydia Mast and many relatives and friends. One son, Louis David, and two brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.

Funeral services were held Tues Feb 14 at the home in Crawfordsville conducted by the Rev. Chapman and at 3 PM at the Eicher Emmanuel Mennonite church conducted by the Rev. Delbert E. Welty and assisted by the Rev. Wm Penner of Wayland. Pallbearers: Armin Erwin, Arthur Mitchell, Ellis Nickolaus, Bennie Schantz, Dave Schantz, and Wilbur Schantz. Interment at Eicher Cemetery.
