When only a small child, he was brought to the Kauffman home from the Iowa Orphanage at Des Moines by Rev. W. H. Slack. Since that time he took a place in the home and in the community as the son of Mr. and Mrs. Kauffman. As the lad grew into manhood, he learned to love and respect his foster parents and to regard them with an attitude of true affection and they in turn bestowed upon him every comfort and advantage a boy could desire.

Roy's good natured attitude toward all his and his irrepressible lightheartedness established him as a friend in the regards to the whole community and his death was a decided blow to all. Although he passed away in early manhood, his was a happy existence and life to him was a pleasant journey.

He is survived by his parents, a large number of relatives, and a community of friends. Funeral services were held from the home Saturday afternoon, June 20th, in charge of Rev. W. H. Slack assisted by Rev. J. J. Pritchard. Interment was made in North Hill cemetery.

Under the wide and starry sky

Dig the grave and let me lie.
Glad did I live and gladly I die

And I lay me down with a will.

This be the verse ye 'grave for me

"Here he lies where he longed to be.
Home is the sailor, home from the sea

And the hunter home from the hill."
