Miles Shelman 1934 - 2004

Miles Edward Shelman, 70, of rural Winfield, died Friday, Aug. 6, 2004, at Henry County Health Center.

Born May 21, 1934, in Washington, he was the son of Miles D. and Rosamond Edwards Shelman. On Sept. 9, 1954, he married Barbara Jackson in Morning Sun.

Mr. Shelman served in the Army during the Korean conflict. He was a farmer in the community his entire life, was a Cargill Seed dealer for 35 years and also sold hail and federal crop insurance for Garrels Insurance in Washington.
He was an Eagle Scout and a Silver Beaver and had been associated with the Boy Scouts of America most of his life. He was a member of the Olds United Church of Christ.

Survivors include his wife of Winfield; his father of Winfield; two sons, Miles Keith Shelman of Mount Pleasant and Kenneth Shelman of Olds; one daughter, Jeanine Shelman–Ward of Ankeny; nine grandchildren; and one brother, Laris Shelman of Winfield. He was preceded in death by his mother, one son and one sister.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Honts Funeral Home in Winfield, where the family will receive friends from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Shelman will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Olds United Church of Christ, with the Rev. Chris Cowles officiating. Burial will follow in North Wayne Township Cemetery.

A memorial has been established.
