Obituary.

George Thompson, son of Hovar and Anna Thompson, was born in the Fox River Settlement, Ill., March 30, 1852, and died March 12, 1929, at the ageof 77 years. He came with his parents to Iowa in 1856. They settled on a farm 2 1/2 miles southeast of Randall, where George grew up. There were ten children in the family, but eight of them died while young, only two grew up, namely: George and Mrs. Tom Henderson. George never married.

A good deal of his time he made his home with Mrs. Valbor Boe, of whom he was a relative, and where he was a relative, and where he was treated as a son in the home. In 1892 he moved into Randall and made his home with Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Henderson for a number of years, until he took up his home with his niece, Mrs. Fred Joerger of Williams.

It may be said of George that he lived more for others than for himself. He was always ready and willing to help to the extent of his ability. He was a kind-hearted person and peaceful.

With the death of Mr. Thompson the last one of few pioneers who settled in Ellsworth township, has passed away.

The body was brought to Randall Thursday and funeral services were held Thursday afternoon, March 15 at the Elim Lutheran church, at two o'clock, Rev. G. O. Paulsrud officiated. A mixed quartet, Mrs. P. G. Pederson, Miss Ruth Hovland, Rev. G. O. Paulsrud and S. M. Teigland, rendered two songs. The pallbearers were G. E. Nes, P. F. Tjernagel, Andrew Owenson, Eddie Peterson, Theo. Knudson and M. L. Henderson. Many of his friends were present to pay their last respects to this pioneer. He was laid to rest in the old cemetery 1 1/2 miles southeast of Randall.
