Obituary of Peter Lewis Peterson Who Died January 6

Peter Lewis Peterson was born Feb. 19, 1866, in a log cabin near Randall. His parents were Nels and Larsine Peterson, natives of Norway. He was baptized and confirmed in the St. Petri Lutheran church at Story City.

The early part of his life was spent assisting his parents on the farm. During this period he was a member of the Riverside band of Randall, which took first place in a state band tournament held at Storm Lake.

Dec. 17, 1890, he was united in marriage at Morris, Ill., to Rena James. The following spring they settled on his farm in Liberty township, Hamilton county. To them five children were born, Truman N. of Galva, Henry E. of Boone, John L. of Blairsburg, Carl R. of Battle Creek and Louise Theresa Caudle of Spencer, S. D.

The mother passed away July 14, 1904, and was laid to rest in Rose Grove cemetery. Mr. Peterson kept the family together and reared the children to young manhood and womanhood.

Mr. Peterson had always been an active member in all religious and civic activities. He was a promoter of the construction of two churches in Rose Grove, of which he was a member.

Mr. Peterson was a consistent republican. He served as delegate to several county conventions and one state convention. He held the office of township trustee for 12 years. He was loading organizer of the Farmers Elevator of Blairsburg, of which be was a director until the time of his death.

On January 1, 1915, he was united in marriage to Hannah Welland of Jewell. They had since resided at the farm home in Liberty township, where he passed away Jan. 6, 1929, at the age of 62 years, 10 months and 17 days. He was laid to rest in Rose Grove cemetery.

He is survived by his widow; five children, eight grandchildren, five sisters, one brother, and a host of other relatives and friends.
