Kenneth D. Hasty, 57, Mason City, died Monday, May 13, 2002 in Hardin County. Funeral services will be held Friday at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Mason City with Rev. Joel Dahlen officiating. Interment will be at 3 p.m. Friday at the Washington Township Cemetery, Duncombe. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Hogan-Breme-Moore Colonial Chapel and one hour prior to services at the church Friday.

Kenneth D. Hasty was born June 15, 1944 at Algona, a son of Verne D. and Betty J. Olson Hasty. He attended rural school near Lotts Creek and later at Duncombe. He was a 1961 graduate of Webster City High School. He married Liz Watson on May 28, 1966 at Humboldt. Ken received a bachelor's degree in social studies from Buena Vista University, Storm Lake, a master's degree in education from Morningside College, Sioux City, in 1969. He taught school at Aurelia for nine years, moving to Fort Dodge in 1975. Ken and his family moved to Mason City in 1989, where he was employed by Principal Financial Group, the Globe-Gazette, and Aid Association for Lutherans. At the time of his death, he was a counselor at the North Iowa Transitional Center in Mason City.

He especially enjoyed his family, friends, drinking coffee, music and reading. He was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, serving on the church council for several years.

He is survived by his wife, Liz, Mason City; two sons, Mike Hasty and wife Cassie, Lenexa, Kan.; Mark Hasty of Cedar Rapids and fiance Paula Bartz of Greenfield, Wis., his mother, Betty Hasty, Duncombe, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, LeRoy and Sandie Bruns, Titonka; Jon Watson, Rock Island, Ill., Steve and Ann Watson, Urbandale, several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

His father, Verne, preceded him in death in 1983.
