Evelyn Marie Caruth, 91, Jewell, died Oct. 4, 1994 at Bethany Manor in Story City. Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at the chapel in Bethany Manor, Story City. Burial will be in the Blairsburg Cemetery. Visitation is today at the Becker Funeral Home in Jewell, with the family present from 7-8 p.m.

Evelyn Marie Caruth, daughter of Emery and Emma Coons, was born May 3, 1903 in Blairsburg Township. She was educated in the rural schools there and graduated from Blairsburg High School. She also attended Ellsworth College at Iowa Falls.

On Oct. 3, 1925, she married Leonard W. Caruth. The couple farmed near Blairsburg for 20 years and then moved to their farm north of Jewell.

She is survived by daughters, Donna Kezar of Bradenton, Fla. and Rosa Lee Ballantine of Story City; sons, Wayne of Sioux City, Wendell and Gerald, both of Webster City, LaVerne of Ellsworth, Lyle of Boone and Edwin of Jewell; 23 grandchildren; and 31 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; daughters, Jeannie Hovick and one in infancy; one son, one grandson and one great-grandson.

She was a member of the Bethesda Lutheran Church of Jewell and had been a member of the Blairsburg Congregational Church. She also was a worker at the East Lane Manor in Jewell for over 30 years.
