Leonard W. Caruth, 71, of rural route 2, Jewell, died Wednesday afternoon at a neighbor's home, with death being attributed to a heart attack.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the Foster Funeral home with the Rev. Norbert Jolivette of Jewell officiating and with burial in the Blairsburg Cemetery.

Leonard William Caruth, son of George and Nellie Moore Caruth, was born April 23, 1904 at Clara City, Minn. He was reared and educated in the Blairsburg area.

On Oct. 3, 1925, he was married to Evelyn M. Coons, and the couple farmed in the Blairsburg area until 1945, when they moved to a farm in the Jewell community.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters and six sons: Mrs. Roger (Donna) Kezar of Lansing, Mich., Wayne Caruth, Sioux City, Wendell Caruth and Gerald Caruth, both of Webster City, Laverne Caruth, Story City, Mrs. Gene (Rosa) Ballantine of Randall, Lyle Caruth of Boone, and Eddie Caruth of Stanhope; 23 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one son, two daughters; two great-grandsons and his parents.

Mr. Caruth was a member of the United Church of Christ, Blairsburg.
