Final rites for Arden Wray Patterson, 78, were held Friday from the United Methodist Church in Bayard. Pastor of the church, Rev Steven Wainwright, officiated and interment was made in the Highland Cemetery.
A longtime Highland Township farmer, Mr. Patterson died November 21, at the Green County Hospital in Jefferson, He had been in failing health but had been much improved until he suffered a stroke November 19.
Organist for the service was Miss Lula Garnes and serving as honorary pall bearers were Milo Cretsinger, Lowell Reever, Cecil Crees, Max McCord, Clive Miller and Don Stubbs. The casket was carried by Don Brown, Louis Ault, Leon Peckumn, Karl Nielsen, Harley Dillavou and Homer Sumner.
Arden Wray Patterson was born December 30, 1898, at Bayard to William and Ella Wray Patterson. He attended Bayard high school. On December 10, 1924, he was united in marriage with Pearle Neal in the First Methodist Church in Des Moines. they lived on the Patterson farm south of Bayard where he was interested in nice horses and good cattle. He also like carpenter work. In 1964 they retired and moved to Bayard.
Arden was a member of the United Methodist church and a former member of the Bayard Lions Club. He had also served on the Bayard City Council.
After leaving the farm, he was employed by the Max McCord Construction Co and Strauser Hardware.
He is survived by his wife, Pearle; a son, Donald, Daughter-in-law, Gertrude, and granddaughter, Lisa of Fargo, North Dakota, and many friends.
