Gordon was united in marriage to Cheryl Carlson on August 20, 1962, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. This union was blessed with two sons, Randy and Brad. The couple farmed in the Marble Rock area moving into Marble Rock in 1988. Gordon farmed over 2, 000 acres in the area retiring in 2008.

Two highlights in Gordy’s life were when he was told he was going to be a grandfather and the farm sale at the end of his career that allowed him to recognize how successful he had truly been over the years.
