Obituary for Russell S. Staudt

Russell S. Staudt, 83 of Marble Rock, died Tuesday evening, January 2, 2018 at the Floyd County Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 6, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Roseville, Iowa. Officiating will be Father Walter Brunken. Visitation will be from 4 until 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Church school. A parish wake service will be held at 4:30 that evening followed by a Rosary. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services at the school. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Church Cemetery.

Russell was born on September 11, 1934 in Floyd County, Iowa, the son of Louis C. and Barbara (Merfeld) Staudt. He attended school at Roseville for eight years and then graduated from Marble Rock High School. He played baseball in high school and then softball after graduation. He rode the same bus as a young lady named Betty Jo and a spark became a marriage.

He was united in marriage to Betty Jo Parcher on November 27, 1954 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Roseville where they have been lifelong members. He honorably served his church, one of many ways was through the church council. He also served on the Marble Rock Elevator Board, the Charles City School Board, and was a member of the Marble Rock Lions Club.

At any time, for any game, Russell was an Iowa State fan. He enjoyed attending and taking pictures at many of the ISU basketball and football games for the Charles City Press. Family and church were his priorities. The Staudt family took cruises and trips together with Pioneer Seed Corn families. They enjoyed Hawaii, Jamaica, Las Vegas, and trips to California and Florida.

As a life-long farmer, building his dream at an early age, he flourished as a Pioneer Seed Corn dealer for 40 years and thoroughly enjoyed his farming community.

Those thankful in sharing in Russell’s life include his wife of 63 years: Betty Jo, six children: Louis (Kathy) Staudt, Shellrock; Lorraine (Jerry) Kennedy, Lakeview, MN; Lee (Vickie) Staudt of Woodbury, MN; Lynn (Todd) Teeter, Fort Calhoun, NE; Lyle (Dawn) Staudt, Charles City; and Leslie (Amy) Staudt, Rockford, 20 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, two sons, a grandson, his sister Rose Marie (Staudt) Cousins, and his brother Robert Staudt.

Memorial funds will be put towards installing a new elevator at St. Mary’s Roseville Church.
