James Gregory headstone

There is a relatively new-looking headstone in the Third Street Cemetery section of Mt. Olivet. The stone is a military-style granite marker engraved: "JAMES GREGORY/CORP CO M/6 IOWA CAV/1824/1869."

The headstones in this section were moved from Third Street Cemetery to Mt. Olivet in the late 1940s. This looks like a replacement stone for an older military marker. I am wondering if this replacement stone was purchased my Mr. Gregory's family and if they still live in the Dubuque area. Was the replacement stone erected at Third Street and then moved, or was it purchased for placement at Mt. Olivet?
