looking for infomation on William and Mary Knight. In 1859 the family came to Dubuque and engaged in farming. Here misfortune overtook the family when the father and mother both died leaving the children to battle alone with the storms of life.

Well Know Mills county Bridge Builder Passes Away at Edmundson Hospital May 24, Funeral in Malvern Sunday.
This Community was greatly shocked last week to learn / that Robert Knight, one of our best know citizens, was at death's door in the Jennie Edmundson hospital and a little later, Friday, that he had passed away. He had always been so rugged and strong that it hardly seemed possible that disease could fasten upon him and take him so soon. The remains were brought home Friday evening and on Sunday afternnon at two, o'clock funeral services were held from the late home, conducted by Rev. M.A. Gable of the Methodist church, and was largely attended. The Odd Fellows of which he had long been a member, also attended in a body and had charge of the services at the grave.
Large numbers of his old friends and acquaintances were in attendance and beautiful flowers testified in a measure to the esteem in which he was held. A special choir, Messra R. W. Criswell and J.R. McClymond and Mrs. F.R. Chantry and L. D. Austen sang. The pall bearers were his Odd Fellow brethren, Messrs. Louis Myers, L.A. Talbott, O.G. Brown and U.R. Graves of Malvern and W.S. Lewis, H.H. Cheyney, W.C. Rathke and E.E. Barber; Glenwood. Quite a number of the Glenwood Odd Fellows attended the funeral and H.H Cheyney and W.C. Rathke had charge of the ritualistic work.
Robert Knight, next to the eldest son of Wm. and Mary Knight was born in Toronto; Canada, February 7th, 1852. He came with his parents to the States when just a child and located first in Illinois and then later in 1859, the family came to Iowa, and engaged in farming in Dubuque County.
Here misfortune overtook the family when the father and mother both died leaving the children to battle alone with the storms of life.
Soon after this the three oldest children, Joe, Robert and John came to Iowa and for the last forty-five years the deceased has been a resident of the county.
He was united in marriage to Jane Mathews July 2, 1875 and to this union seven children were born three of whom together with the good wife survive him. The three all live in this vicinity and are Mrs. John Poulson, Harvey Knight and Mrs. Mable Wyant.
For thiry-five years Mr. Knight has been engaged by the county Supervisors to do county bridge work and during these many years he has been faithful to his task. He was known all over south western Iowa as the most efficient bridge man in the country. Whenver a bridge was completed under the directon of Robert Knight the traveling public felt absolutely satisfied as to its safety.
He lived a life osf spotless integrity and was noted for his kindly generous nature and for his devotion to duy.
He was a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows and he always endeavored to incorporate into his life the ideals of the Order. A man tried and true has passed from among us and as home builder, father, friend, brother and public servant he will be greatly missed, After a short but severo illness, the seriousness of which was evident from the first he passed away at the hopital in Council Bluffs, May 24th, age 66 years, three monhths 17 days,
