6 April 1881
Yesterday morning, about two o'clock, Mr A. Tiefenbrumm, a whitewasher by occupation, was found dead in his bed at the residence of Mr Beanger, on Clay street, between Eighth and Ninth streets. Mr Tiefenbrunn had not been feeling well for several days and as by is a widower, and had no one near him to give him necessary care Mr Beanger, a carpet weaver, who lives next door, offered to give him a room, and Mr Tiefenbrunn moved his bed over to Mr Beanger's house. Deceased was very restless and delirious, and on Sunday night got out of bed, dressed himself, and was about to walk out into the street, when he was stopped by Mr Beanger and put to bed again. He was very ill Monday night and extremly delirious. Mr Beanger retired about midnight, and left the sick man alone in an adjoining room. At two o'clock yesterday morning he went into the room of the sick man and found him resting very quietly. Fearing that all was not right, he felt the man's face, and found it was cold. Further investigation revealed the fact that he was dead, having evidently breathed his last shortly after Mr Beanger went to bed.
The deceased was a widower, having procured a divorce from his wife who left him some time ago. He had been a resident of Dubuque for about 25 years, during which time he has followed the occupation of whitewasher. He was well known to many of our citizens. No relatives of his reside in or near Dubuque- his aged father and mother, with several brothers and sisters residing in St Louis. A telegram was sent to them yesterday, inquiring what shoul be done with the body. Until such an answer is received the body will remain in its former lonely home. Mr Tiefenbrunn was born in Prussia, and was 49 years of age. His ailment is said to have been lung fever.
