Maxine M. Mathews, 80, of Edgewater, Fla., formerly of Denver and Danville, died at 420 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, 1997, at Hospice Care Center in Port Orange, Fla.

Born July 11, 1917, in Pleasant Grove Township, she was the daughter of Homer and Myrtle Alber Callaway. On May 7, 1938, she married Wayne S. Mathews in Kahoka, Mo.

Mrs. Mathews graduated from Danville High School, Danville, and was a homemaker.

She was of the Presbyterian faith.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Michael W. Mathews of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Fred "Fritz" C. Mathews of Fort Collins, Colo.; one daughter, Judith Webb of Denver; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one brother, Lester Callaway of Burlington; and two sisters, Hazel Moore of Danville and Vivian McKinnen of Mesa, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and one sister.

There will be no family visitation.

The memorial for Mrs. Mathews will be at 1030 a.m. Friday at Danville Congregational United Church of Christ, Danville, with the Rev. Walter B. Martin officiating. Burial will be in Jaggar Cemetery, Danville.

A memorial has been established to Hospice of Flagler Volusia in Port Orange, Fla.
