Mr. Leon Lyle Harris, 91, of Burlington died at 8:10 a.m. Thursday, February 12, 2015, at his home.
Born September 21, 1923 in Burlington, he was the son of Marion Henry and Sadie Mae Harris. On October 11, 1947 he married Wanda Louise Baldwin in Burlington.
Mr. Harris was an Army veteran of World War II serving as a PFC in Company C 314th Medical Battalion, 89th Division.
He worked for I.A.A.P., drove a Gas Transporter in Iowa City and Coralville area. He later was a superintendent for Heil Company for 35 years, which became Burlington Ice and Cold Storage retiring in 1988.
He enjoyed restoring old cars, bowling, water skiing, and pitching Horseshoes.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Wanda Harris of Burlington; one son, Ronald L. Harris of Dunn Center, North Dakota; two grandchildren; six great grandchildren; one sister, Shirley Oberly of Marceline, Missouri; one brother, Marion Harold Harris of New London and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, six sisters and two brothers
The memorial funeral service for Mr. Harris will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 18th at, Lunning Chapel with Pastor Don Crawford officiating. There will be no visitation and Cremation has been accorded. Inurnment will be at a later date.
