Dennis Ray Miller, 56, of Burlington, died at 6:10 a.m. Saturday, September 6, 2014, at the Colonial Manor in Columbus Junction.
Born October 19, 1957 in Keokuk, he was the son of Don and Sharon (Weller) Miller. He married Sherry Griffin. They later divorced.
Dennis was a self-employed tree trimmer. He was an avid hunter and loved to fish and camp out. He enjoyed working on cars and was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed help.
He is survived by his three children, Nathan Miller, currently serving his country in Germany, James Miller of Columbia, MO and Jessica Miller of Burlington; four grandchildren; his mother, Sharon Smith of West Burlington; three brothers, Ernest Miller of Farmington, Rodney Miller of Jacksonville, NC and Donald Miller of Burlington; five sisters, Pamela Canty of Sperry, Cheryl Hollenbeck of Fort Madison, Susan Swank, Sandra Miller and Amy Miller all of West Burlington; two step brothers, Curtis Smith of Florida and Robert Smith of West Burlington; one step sister, Pamela Horton of Danville; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, SGT John Miller, who died serving his country in Iraq, his father, his step father, James Smith and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
There will be no formal visitation or funeral service at this time. According to his wishes, cremation has been entrusted to Lunning Chapel. A private family burial will be held at a later date.
