Jeremy James Fulk, 21, of New London, died Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2000, at Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Born Jan. 24, 1979, in Burlington, he was the son of Jerry and Carol Ann Johnson Fulk.

Mr. Fulk was a corporal in the Marine Corps. He enlisted in March 1998, attended boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego and was assigned with Bravo Co., 1st Battalion, 1st Marines, serving in the infantry. He was a guide and squad leader and carried the colors for the unit. He became corporal the first of this year.

He was a member of New London Christian Church and a 1997 graduate of New London High School. He was a four-year varsity wrestler, going to district meet in his sophomore and junior years. In 1997 he placed third at 130 pound weight class at state wrestling. He was two-time captain, two-time most valuable wrestler, two-time conference champ and his senior year broke the most take-down record with 182 (the record had been 106). He was an all-Hawkeye wrestler in his junior and senior years, and was prep athlete of the week in his senior year. He was an avid baseball and football player, enjoyed fishing, golfing, shooting pool with his family, driving his Camaro and spending time with his family.

Survivors include his father and stepmother, Jerry and Sylvia Fulk of New London; two brothers, Jason A. Fulk of New London and Nathan A. Fulk of Solon; three stepbrothers, Mark Sjuts, Keith Sjuts and Dan Sjuts, all of St. Joseph, Ill.; two stepsisters, Sharolyn Worly of St. Joseph and Vicki Roberts of Dallas, Ga.; grandmother, Ica Mae Fulk of Memphis, Mo.; and aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother, two grandfathers and one grandmother.

Visitation will begin after noon Wednesday at Elliott Chapel in New London, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Fulk will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the New London High School auditorium, with Pastor Rod Cooper and the Rev. Brian Swafford officiating. Burial with military rites presented by the Marine Funeral Detail General Support Maintenances Co., Rock Island Arsenal will be in Burge Cemetery in New London.

Memorials have been established for the Jeremy Fulk Memorial Fund and New London wrestling boosters.
