Onamae Zirtzman, 78, of Mesa, Arizona, formerly of Earlville, Iowa died November 4, 2008 after undergoing heart surgery.

Funeral services will be 3:00 Saturday, November 8, 2008 at the Earlville United Parish in Earlville by Pastor Jill Mack. Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday in the Fairview Cemetery, Earlville.

Onamae was born March 23, 1930, the daughter of Joseph and Edith (Nagel) Rayburn in Delaware County, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Floyd Zirtzman on January 24, 1948. Onamae and Floyd exemplified the American ideals of self-initiative and hard work. They formed many businesses (including a cheese factory and dog breeding venture) and enjoyed the freedom of self-employment for much of their lives. They had a love of travel and adventure, and, in later life, they combined these traits with work, making a living peripatetically with amusement companies at carnivals and fairs throughout the country. Because Onamae believed in work as an opportunity for service to others, she became an LPN which allowed her to minister to elderly folks in nursing homes. As a couple, Onamae and Floyd instilled all of the values reflected above, self-reliance, honest work, kindness, care-giving, and a care-free lifestyle, in their children, and by example to all who were graced with their company. In her retirement years, ever resourceful and undaunted by the technological advances of this modern age, Onamae taught herself how to use the computer and worked as an office manager for a real estate agency in Indianapolis, IN. She “stayed in touch” with countless friends and family by e-mail over the internet. All of us will miss the many jokes, animal videos, and “outrageous” political comments that she sent our way.

Onamae was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Zirtzman in 2005; her parents, Edith and Joseph Rayburn; and three brothers, Claude Rayburn, Harvey Rayburn, and Marlow Rayburn.

Oname is survived by two daughters, Candace Brezovec (Arie Wisher) of Mesa, AZ, Gina Zirtzman of Cornell, WI; grandchildren, Heather (Alan) Smith and Adam Brezovec, Jessica, Trisha and Trinity James; two great-grandchildren, Paige and Keyra; a brother, Ron (Bev) Rayburn of Simi Valley, CA; and one brother-in-law, Don Zirtzman of Monticello, IA

We will miss her broad smile and shining spirit very much.
