Loyd’s family lived in Des Moines when he was born, but in 1960, they moved to Wisconsin where he attended school. At the age of 9 years, Loyd was in an accident, in which he lost one leg and the other foot was severed but reattached. He never complained and lived his life to the fullest with an artificial leg. He worked at a Shell gas station before starting a nearly 45-year career driving truck for National By-Products, which later became known as Darling International.

In July of 1974, Loyd married Rita Ann Garcia. They were blessed with three children, Steve, Felicia, and Shelia. On August 18, 1989, Loyd married Lorene Faye Showers of Leon, Iowa at Beard’s Bluff Park near Ashdown, Arkansas. They and his children made their home in Leon.

In his free time, Loyd loved to ride motorcyles, and mow and work in the yard. He liked having a nice yard. He and Lorene enjoyed participating in motorcycle rallies and poker runs. He was a member of the GWRA (Gold Wing Riders Association), Re-Tread (a 50+ year old member motorcycle club), and Borderline Motorcycle Club out of Mt. Ayr, Iowa. He loved playing with his grandchildren every chance he got.

Preceding him in death were his parents; grandpa, Felix Garcia; siblings, Clyde Warden, Janet Tiedke, and Corrine Warden; and brothers-in-law, Lonnie Showers and Dennis Showers.
