Funeral services for Wesley Wagner, 85, were held Tuesday, Feb. 10, at 2 p.m. at First Christian Church in Wheatland, with Pastor Andy Gudahl and Pastor Larry Benjamin officiating. Interment will be in the Wheatland Cemetery at Wheatland.

Mr. Wagner died Thursday, February 5, at Platte County Memorial Hospital in Wheatland.

Wesley was born December 29, 1918, in Longmont, Colo., the son of Phillip and Sophie Elizabeth (Pope) Wagner.

He was reared and educated in Longmont and then Wheatland when the family moved there when he was ten years old. Wesley farmed for his parents on one of their two farms until being drafted into the service during World War II. He served in the United States Army from February 26, 1942 to December 3, 1945. Prior to his discharge he married Randena Baker on September 13, 1945, in Wheatland. After his discharge, they moved to Saratoga, Wyo., where he worked on a ranch until he purchased a farm at Bordeaux, near Wheatland. He began working as a heavy equipment operator in construction in the mid 1950's until 1967 when health concerns forced his retirement. Wesley enjoyed fishing, tooling leather, doing mechanic work, and spoiling his grandkids. He had a "heart of gold".

Mr. Wagner is survived by his wife of 58 years, Randena of Wheatland; five sons, Wesley Wagner Jr. and wife, Gayle, Kerry Wagner, David Wagner and wife, Jean, all of Gillette, Wyo., Dewight Wagner and wife, Deborah and Duane Wagner and wife, Janet all of Wheatland; four daughters, Linda Johnson and husband, Stanley of Gillette, Lavona Melius and husband, Stephen and Debra Havard all of Wheatland, and Phyllis Hagemann and husband, Perry of Rapid City, S.D.; a brother, Leo Wagner of Salt Lake City, Utah; sister, Esther Mills of Wheatland; nineteen grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Samuel, Harold, Cecil, and Edward Wagner; two sisters, Helen West and Miriam Sturgeon Hill; and twin granddaughters.

Serving as pallbearers were Dallis Wagner, Wesley Wagner III, James K.Wagner, Travis Wagner, Jason Havard, Jason Zimmerman, and Kenny Hurlbert. Honorary pallbearers were his many family members and friends.

Memorials to the American Heart Association, Memorial & Tribute Program, 1807 Capitol Avenue, Suite 109, Cheyenne, Wyoming 82001 would be appreciated by the family.

Family and friends may call at the funeral chapel on Monday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 12 Noon.

Gorman Funeral Homes - Platted Chapel of Wheatland was in charge of arrangements.
