Susannah "Susan" (Akes) Brown
September 30, 1855 ~ April 21, 1931

Susan, daughter of Rev. S. R. and Emaline Akes was born in Jefferson county, Iowa, Sept. 30, 1855 and passed from this life on April 21, 1931 at the age of seventy five years at the home of her nephew, W. H. Akes in Leon.

The major part of her life was spent in Decatur county Iowa.

On September 11, 1871, she was united in marriage to J. L. Brown. To this union were born three daughters and one son. At an early age she became a member of the Baptist church and later with her husband joined the Methodist church at Decatur, during the pastorate of Rev. F. H. Perkins. She has always lived a devout Christian life.

Her husband and son preceded her in death. she is survived by her daughters, Mrs. Anna Akers of Denver, Colorado; Mrs. Bertha Reuss and Mrs. Lulu Williams of Decatur, Iowa all of whom were at her bedside when she passed away. She also leaves to mourn her passing one brother, W. P. Akes of Leon, one sister, Mrs. Emma Bain of Wayland, Iowa, and a half brother Ben Akes of San Francisco California, eight great-grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at her home in Decatur with services by Rev Howard P. Young. The burial took place at the Decatur cemetery and a large company of friends and relatives accompanied the deceased to her last resting place.
