Mary Ann, daughter of H. K. and M. A. McCalla, was born February 2, 1844, at Brighton, Jefferson county, Iowa, and departed this life at the home of her daughter, Mrs. George Harriman, in Kellerton, Iowa, April 25, 1933, having reached a ripe old age of more than 89 years.

When quite young she moved to northeast of Leon, where she confessed her faith in Christ and was "buried with Him in baptism" in obedience to His command. Later she transferred her membership to Decatur and upon coming to Kellerton united with the Kellerton Church of Christ in 1916.

On April 20, 1862, she was united in marriage to Joseph A. Brown, who preceded her in death June 3, 1915. She leaves to mourn her going one brother, Jas. McCalla, living in Idaho; four children, Charley Brown of Van Wert, Edward Brown of Kansas, Mrs. Geo. Harriman of Kellerton, and Mrs. Cora Patterson of Chugwater, Wyo. Another daughter, Stella Prim, died in 1915. Mrs. Brown leaves in addition several grandchildren and great grandchildren besides a host of friends in Ringgold and Decatur counties.

Funeral services were conducted from the Harriman home by her minister, Elder W. W. Kratzer, and she was laid to rest in the Decatur cemetery.
