Roland Jon Redman, son of Roland James and K Elizabeth "Betty" (Cochran) Redman was born November 11, 1941 in Osceola, Iowa and passed from this life suddenly on Sunday, November 19, 2017 at his home near Weldon, Iowa at 76 years of age.

Following graduation from Van Wert High School in 1960, Jon worked for Wright Tree Services. He traveled all over and ended up in Oklahoma attending Oklahoma State Tech. He went to work for Ralston Purina following completion of college. This demanded more travel. He also worked for Gibbs Cook and was an over the road truck driver and worked as a diesel mechanic. He also worked as a driver for Southern Iowa Trolley. Physically he may have strayed from the farm, but his heart was always back on the farm. He eventually returned to the farm, where he helped his father raising cattle and working the fields. Jon has lived outside Weldon since 1972.

June 29, 1962 Jon married Gayla M Cherington in Pocatello, Idaho. Three daughters, Cindy, Lanny, and Chelle were blessed to this union. Later they divorced. April 1, 1984 Jon was united in marriage to Donola L (Hacker) Sullivan in Trenton, Missouri. She preceded him in death.

Jon enjoyed the outdoors. He collected John Deere two-cylinder tractors, enjoyed riding the 4-wheeler and playing “10-point pitch” card games with the grandkids. In his younger days he enjoyed dancing and traveling. As Jon retired on his farm, his dog, Ruth, became his loyal companion. If Jon was in town, Ruth would be sitting in the passenger seat waiting.

Those relatives who preceded Jon in death were his wife, Donola Redman; parents, Jimmie and Betty Redman.

Jon leaves to cherish his memory; daughters, Rocinda and Rolanda Redman, Rochelle Cochran, Vicci (Raymon) Carson; son, John (Debbie) Sullivan; grandchildren, Paula (Dustin) Reynolds, Kelli Green, Jacob, Joshua (Dina), Joseph Snook, Jordan, Erin, Logan Cochran, Susan (Daniel) Sanchez, Travis Carson, Jamie (Bryan) Duddy and Jared Sullivan; great-grandchildren, Alexander, Jaxon, Kennedy, Steven Snook, Marilyn, Dustin Jr, Lillian Reynolds, Reiley and Bradley Chase; brother, Fred Redman; sisters, Kari (Victor) Gutierrez, Rebecca (Alan) Taylor, and Dodi Bland, as well as nieces and nephews, other relatives, many friends and neighbors, and Ruth.

Memorial contributions may be directed to his family for a fitting tribute to be decided on at a later date.

Interment was made at Decatur City Cemetery, Decatur City, IA.
